Dickie’s Farm is said to be haunted either by the apparition of Ned Dixon, or that of a co-heiress who was murdered and imparted a curse that her bones would never leave the site. Whatever the apparition, Dickie’s Farm is the location of “Tunstead Dickey” - a "Screaming Skull". It is mentioned in Highways and Byways in Derbyshire by J B Frith, a guide published in 1905, and in countless volumes on tales of ghosts and haunting ever since.
It is said that the ghost through the presence of the skull caused all manner of problems for the owners of the farm should they try to remove it. However, it is said that the ghost also had a hand in altering the course of the railway construction, making cattle go dry and sheep suffering from sheep-rot!
